Realtors who get social media marketing: Jackie Colson-Miller

Jackie Colson-Miller This is a continuation of our series on Realtors who get social media. Previous installments include Ines Hegedus-Garcia and Andy Kaufman. Today, I'm adding to this distinguished list Jackie Colson-Miller.

Jackie is a Realtor with Tampa-based Toni Everett Company. She blogs at The Real Estate Sizzle.

Though I don't know Jackie as well as the Ines and Andy, I am impressed by her extensive resume. (You should read this thing.)

She was kind enough to answer my series of questions about Realtors and social media. Read on.

What is your opinion of Realtors and blogging?

Only the tough will survive!  Blogging in Real Estate takes commitment and interesting content.

Is it a useful tool to generate leads? Why? And how does one achieve that?

Yes. It takes an interesting variety of content that both buyers and sellers find to be useful information, in an easy to navigate blog-style. I think it is very important that your articles show professionalism, intelligence and a thorough knowledge of the local market. provide on the best way to use a blog? What to post, etc.

I use a variety of restaurant reviews, neighborhood information, interesting homes, market stats and some International Real Estate. I constantly "tweak" by blog based on the search words that are generating traffic for me.

Well, you know I have a very good opinion of Realtors and blogging, but is it a useful tool to generate leads and why?

Because readers get a sense of the blogger’s personality, it allows them to easily "connect" with you.

How does one achieve that?

Be yourself. Offer opinions backed up with facts to confirm your status as an "expert" in the area.

Got some tips on the best way to use a blog for lead generation?

Each of my articles includes a "call to action"…call me…contact me…and I use lots of internal links to previous articles to keep them reading

What else is working so far as Web 2.0 stuff is concerned? Are you seeing business off Twitter, Active Rain, other social networks or apps?

I haven’t done Twitter yet, but it’s on my list. The first place I send an outgoing referral is to another blogger. I love the tight-knit blogging community and when I refer a client to a fellow blogger, I know they are in good hands.

Blogging and social media works, but you must be patient. It took six months of hard blogging before I started to really reap the rewards. Now, I get most of my business via The Tampa Real Estate Sizzle.
