2008 prediction: Niche social networks will abound

I believe 2008 will be the year of the social network. With DIY services like Ning, Kickapps and others, it's bound to happen.

Personally, I see the development of these  mirroring what happened in the blogosphere in 05 and 06. But, that's me.

What do you think? Will we see niche social networks developing at a rapid pace? If so, what will be the implications?

Also, please feel free to list any niche socnets of which you are aware. Thks.

All I want for Christmas is an Amazon Kindle... Christmas 08 that is

Kindle I'm a tech gadget wannabe. I'd love to have the latest and greatest, but, alas, my budget won't allow for it. Something about paying a mortgage and car note I'm told.

Still, that doesn't negate the fact that I'd love to have an Amazon Kindle! Unfortunately, there is a seven month waiting list, according to one eBayer.

Get this... this guy is offering a Kindle for auction that he doesn't even own!

Frozen Pea Friday & Boobs on Ice

Frozen Pea Fund

Today, I received this email from fellow blogger Jim Turner about something that's caught the attention of the web...

Those of you that are not participants on Twitter may not otherwise get to see this but I wanted to make you aware of something that has caught hold and gaining steam in the social media world.

Today is Frozen Pea Friday.  The reason behind the campaign is to show support for a friend Susan Reynolds.

Paying homage to my site sponsor, Bizzuka

Bizzuka logo

It's not the purview of this blog to talk about the company I serve as marketing director, Bizzuka, and rarely will you ever find it mentioned here. However, John Munsell, Bizzuka's CEO, has agreed to sponsor the site and, as such, it's only fair that I pay homage with this single post.

Facebook chain letter

I'm getting several copies of this letter sent to me in Facebook. Come on, folks. It's a chain letter. Facebook doesn't need me to send this to know I'm active.

Attention all Facebook members.

Facebook is recently becoming very overpopulated. There have been many members complaining that Facebook is becoming very slow. Records show that the reason is that there are too many non-active Facebook members. And on the other side too many new Facebook members.

We will be sending this messages around to see if the Members are active or not. If you're active please send to other users using Copy+Paste to show that you are active. Those who do not send this message within 2 weeks. The user will be deleted without hesitation to create more space. If Facebook is still overpopulated we kindly ask for donations but until then send this message to all your friends and make sure you send this message to show me that your active and not deleted.

In honor of blogging's 10th anniversary, I'm sharing my business blogging story. What's yours?

I said in yesterday's post commemorating the 10th anniversary of the term "weblog," that blogging has been very good to me. If you don't mind, I'd like to share with you my blogging story... and, more especially, I'd like to hear yours as well.

From Bloggercon to Blog World, blogs celebrate 10th anniversary

Fireworks My schedule doesn't allow time to elaborate too much at the moment, but in reading Pete Blackshaw's blog I find that today, December 17th, 2007, marks the 10th anniversary of blogs.  Actually, it's the word "weblog" that we commemorate today, but that's close enough.
