Why 'Conversational Media Marketing' was chosen as the topic and title of this blog

Why choose Conversational Media Marketing as the topic for this blog? One reason, the domain name was available. No, really, that's the reason!

OK, it's not the only reason.

The second reason: I'm a student of social media.

If you read my bio you know that I know something about business blogging. (Even had the opportunity to write a book on the subject.) I want to know just as much about social media and its application where business and marketing is concerned. Veteran blogger Rebecca Blood once made the statement that if you blog about a particular topic for six months, you'll become an expert at it. I believe that to be true.

However, I don't want to use the term "social media." To me, conversational media is much more apt description of where marketing is headed. Plus, I whole-heartedly adhere to the mantra of the Cluetrain, "markets are conversations." Plus, I'm reading Joseph Jaffe's latest book, Join the Conversation. Plus, it's a term that catching on. (Plus, I own the domain name, remember.)

There is a line from The Shawshank Redemption where Morgan Freeman's character, Red, says, "I find I'm so excited, I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain."

That pretty well sums up my feelings regarding the journey upon which I am about to embark; one where I will learn, grow, share and, eventually, teach. Along the way I hope to find other sojourners who share the same passions as I... some who will walk ahead of me, lighting the path; some who will walk beside me; and even some who will follow.

(Please forgive me if I happen to sound a bit philosophical or melodramatic. It's just my nature.)
