Scoble's has run-in with Facebook, gets account disabled

Robert_scobleFamed tech blogger Robert Scoble had a run-in with Facebook that resulted last night in his account being disabled. His offense? Using a new feature of Plaxo Pulse to gather information from his 5,000 friends, of which I'm one.

Never fear, they let him back in once he agreed to  abide by their terms of use.

The real story here revolves around just who owns the information contained on social networks like MySpace, Facebook, Plaxo and others. Scoble's unfortunate situation may have the silver lining around it, that of calling attention to the issue of data portability. He's even signed his name to an initiative to create open standards for such.

If there is one person in the entire blogosphere who can bring enough attention to bear on the subject  it's Robert Scoble. Maybe his misfortune will actually serve to benefit the rest of us.
